14, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The 15th-ranked Washington College sailing team finished sixth of 16 schools at the Hobart/William Smith Fall Intersectional held this past weekend. WC also tied for seventh of 12 schools at the Hap Moore Team Race, hosted by Coast Guard. At the Hobart/William Smith Fall Intersectional, freshman skipper Carl Horrocks (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) and freshman Melanie Baylin (Fallston, MD/North Harford) finished seventh in A Division. In B Division, junior skipper Chad Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Morristown-Beard) and sophomore Sarah Amato (Spring Lakes Heights, NJ/Manasquan) also finished seventh. Host Hobart/William Smith, currently ranked first in the Sailing World Co-Ed College Rankings, finished first, with ninth-ranked Boston College taking second and second-ranked Kings Point finishing third. Saturday's races were held in northeast winds of five knots that shifted to southerly winds of 10 knots. Sunday began with south winds of 15 knots, but the breeze slowly died. At the Hap Moore Team Race, Washington tied for seventh with a race record of 12-9. Third-ranked Harvard won the event, with third-ranked Tufts finishing second and fifth-ranked Dartmouth and 13th-ranked Yale tieing for third. The regatta featured eleven nationally-ranked teams and host Coast Guard, which was not ranked in the latest ranking, but did receive votes. Juniors Mike Buckley (Sandwich, MA/Tabor Academy) and Jen Hanley (Sparks, MD/Maryvale Prep), and sophomores Colin Robertson (Annapolis, MD/St. Mary's), Nathan St. Onge (Hyannis, MA/Barnstable), Diane Morrow (Tabernacle, NJ/Shawnee) and Halle Ricker (Traceys Landing, MD/St. Mary's) represented WC at the Hap Moore. This coming weekend, Washington hosts the WC Open and travels to the Navy Fall Intersectional. |
