7, 2002 WASHINGTON, DC -- Four freshmen, inclduing three making their competitive debuts represented the 15th-ranked Washington College sailing team this past weekend at the Tom Curtis Memorial Regatta, hosted by Georgetown University. The WC sailors finished 15th at the event. In A Division, Beth Hendee (Stone Harbor, NJ/Middle Township) and Lauren Goetting (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant) finished 11th. In B Division, Jim Cheston (Easton, MD/Sts. Peter & Paul) and Melanie Baylin (Fallston, MD/North Harford) finished 17th. Goetting, Cheston, and Baylin were all making their competitive sailing debut at the event. Host Georgetown won the event, finishing first in both divisions. UMBC finished second and St. Mary's (MD) was third. This coming weekend, Washington will compete at the Hap Moore Team Race, hosted by Coast Guard, and the Hobart & William Smith Fall Intersectional. |
