25, 2002 CHARLESTON, SC -- The 14th-ranked Washington College sailing team finished eighth of 18 teams this weekend at the SAISA/MAISA Intersectional, hosted by the College of Charleston. It was the WC sailors' final competition of the 2002 calendar year. Washington finished eighth in both A Division and B Division. Sophomores Nathan St. Onge (Hyannis, MA/Barnstable) and Diane Morrow (Tabernacle, NJ/Shawnee) represented WC in A Division, while junior Chad Hillyer (Summit, NJ/Mooristown-Beard) and sophomore Max von Roth (Weston, VT/Long Trail) sailed in B Division. Maryland-Baltimore County won the regatta, followed by seventh-ranked Charleston in second place and tenth-ranked Kings Point in third. On Saturday, current was a big factor in the races, especially since the breeze was shifty from the north-northwest at three to eight knots all day in a strong ebb tide. Conditions stayed the same on Sunday, but a light southwest sea breeze came in around noon. Washington will next compete at the Rose Bowl Regatta, hosted by USC, on January 4th and 5th. |
