Shoremen Backhand Bears, 9-0
Cranford Rolls to 6-0, 6-0 Win at No. 1 Singles

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's tennis team moved up six spots to 12th in the Atlantic South regional rankings released today and the Shoremen marked the occasion with a 9-0 blanking of Centennial Conference opponent Ursinus this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The win came in the first home outdoor match the Shoremen (14-1, 7-1 Centennial) have played this season. The Bears (4-12, 0-8) remained winless in conference play with the loss.

In doubles, freshman Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and junior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC) rolled past Jason Zerbe and Greg Lewis, 8-2, at No. 1. Juniors Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) and Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) downed Joseph Ellwood and Phillip Ricci, 8-1, at No. 2, while sophomores Derek Wise (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) and Timothy Parks (Geneva, Switzerland/College du Leman) were 8-3 winners over Ryan Metcalf and Josh Hollaman at No. 3.

Cranford ran his record at No. 1 singles this spring to 9-1 by dispatching of Zerbe, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1. Parks bested Hollaman, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2, while Green downed Lewis, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3. Danver added a 6-3, 6-0, win over Ellwood at No. 4 and Switala beat Kevin Dean, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5. Wise was a 6-1, 6-1, winner against Metcalf at No. 6.

The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match against Haverford, their final regular season match.
