2008 HILTON HEAD, SC -- The Washington College men's tennis team blanked Missouri Valley College, an NAIA opponent, 9-0, in a match played in Hilton Head, SC, this afternoon. The Shoremen moved to 6-0 on the season with the victory, their second straight shutout win and third of the season. Washington prevailed in all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. Freshman Andrew Laux (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and junior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) were 8-5 winners over Lorenz Pestinger and Derek Gillilan at No. 1, freshman Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and junior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC) bested Diego Malaga and Eugenio Huerta, 8-3, at No. 2, and freshman Jon Keller (Frederick, MD/Frederick) and junior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) defeated Miguel Pacheco and Blake Gutierres, 9-7, at No. 6. In singles, Cranford topped Pestinger, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1, Switala beat Huerta, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2, and Danver downed Pacheco, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3. Green rallied for a 6-7, 6-0, 10-6, win against Malaga at No. 4, Laux beat Gillilan, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5, and Keller defeated Nick Hood, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6. The Shoremen return to action Thursday with a 3:00 p.m. match against Manhattanville in Hilton Head. |
