Fords Foil Shoremen, 6-3
Switala, Danver Win in Singles

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Haverford College, the 11th-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, pulled off a hard-fought 6-3 Centennial Conference men's tennis win over host Washington College, ranked 12th in the region, this afternoon at the Schottland Tennis Center. The Fords improved to 9-6 overall and 7-1 in conference matches with the win, while the Shoremen finish the regular season at 14-2 overall and 7-2 in conference matches. Both teams have qualified for the four-team Centennial Conference Tournament to be played next weekend.

Haverford held a 2-1 lead after doubles. Stephen Feder and Marc Rudolph put the Fords on the board first with an 8-5 win over Washington junior Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) and freshman Jon Keller (Frederick, MD/Frederick) at No. 3. The Shoremen tied things up when freshman Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) and junior Brian Danver (Bethany Beach, DE/St. Albans, DC) rallied from a 4-1 deficit to defeat Marc Adelberg and Hailu Yang, 8-5, at No. 2. Tom Kinrade and Evan Stiegel, the sixth-ranked doubles team in the region, gave Haverford the 2-1 lead when they completed an 8-3 victory against junior Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and freshman Andrew Laux (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) at No. 1.

Haverford took a 3-1 lead when Stiegel defeated Laux, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3, and increased the margin to 4-1 when Adelberg finished a 6-3, 6-3, victory over Keller at No. 6. The Shoremen pulled to within 4-2 with Danver's 6-3, 6-2, win over Yang at No. 5. Switala then got the Shoremen to within one point with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, win against Feder at No. 2, but Kinrade's, 6-4, 6-2, win over Cranford at No. 1 clinched the win for the Fords. Rudolph provided the final point of the match by defeating Green, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4.
