Solis & Roldan Win "D" Doubles at
Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- Washington College senior Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and sophomore Rafael Roldan (Quito, Ecuador/Academia Cotopaxi) won the "D" doubles flight at this weekend's Hampton Roads Collegiate Tennis Invitational of Newport News, VA. Solis also advanced to the quarterfinals of "B" singles.

Solis and Roldan opened play in "D" doubles with an 8-1 victory over Christopher Newport's Tommy Harris and Chris Scott. In the quarterfinals, Solis and Roldan bested James Madison's Chris Armes and Don Davidson, 8-6, and Drexel's Mike Keefe and Ben Trabin, 8-3, in the semifinals. In the "D" doubles finals, Solis and Roldan blanked Delaware's Jon Schwartz and Amit Kapur, 8-0.

Solis began his run in "B" singles with a 6-2, 6-1, win over Delaware's Matt Liebman in the first round and then topped Georgetown's Ken Wong, 6-2, 7-6(3), in the second round. In the quarterfinals, Solis fell to Jason Hill of Navy, 6-4, 6-1.

After dropping his opening round match in "C" Singles, Roldan topped Keefe, 8-0, in the first consolation round and Dylan Young of Christopher Newport in the second consolation round, 8-3. In the consolation semifinals, Roldan fell to Camilo Perezz of Delaware, 8-6.

Freshman Timothy Parks (Geneva, Switzerland/College Du Leman) lost his opening round match in "D" singles, but bested Virginia Wesleyan's Lee Cebula, 8-3, in the first consolation round, before falling in the second consolation round.

The Washington College men's tennis team will open its spring schedule February 23rd with a 1:00 p.m. match at The College of New Jersey.
