Fords Best Shoremen, 5-3, in CC Semis
Solis Wins in Singles and Doubles

BEL AIR, MD -- Second-seeded Haverford College defeated third-seeded Washington College, 5-3, in a Centennial Conference semifinal match hosted by Johns Hopkins this afternoon. The match was played indoors, at the Emmorton Recreation and Tennis Center in Bel Air, MD, and at Harford Community College. The Fords, ranked eighth in the Atlantic South region, improved to 13-3 with the win and will play top-seeded Johns Hopkins in the championship match on Sunday. The Shoremen completed their dual match schedule with the loss, finishing at 8-11.

Haverford held a 2-1 lead after doubles. Marc Adelberg and Elmar Trust beat WC sophomore Rafael Roldan (Quito, Ecuador/Academia Cotopaxi) and sophomore Brian Danver (Montgomery Village, MD/St. Albans), 8-1, at No. 2, while Marc Rudolph and Evan Stiegel were 8-5 winners against sophomore Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) and freshman Derek Wise (Salisbury, MD/Parkside) at No. 3. Washington picked up a point at No. 1 where senior Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and sophomore Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) downed Alex Buxbaum and Thomas Kinrade, the region's ninth-ranked doubles team, 9-8(3).

Solis, ranked seventh in the region in singles, defeated Buxbaum, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles and Roldan completed a 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(6) win over Kinrade at No. 2 for the Shoremen, but Trust beat Green, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3 and Stephen Feder downed Switala, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 5, to put the Fords ahead, 4-3. Haverford clinched the match when Steigel finished off a 7-6(1), 6-3, against Danver at No. 4. No. 6 singles was not finished as the match was called upon decision per Centennial Conference Tournament rules.

While the Shoremen's dual match season is over, Solis now awaits word on a possible third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Singles Championship tournament to be held next month.
