Fords Clip Shoremen, 6-3
Two Teams Will Meet Again in Centennial Semifinals

HAVERFORD, PA -- Host Haverford College, ranked eighth in the Atlantic South region, defeated visiting Washington College, ranked 15th in the region, 6-3, in a Centennial Conference tennis match today. The Fords (12-2, 7-1 Centennial) secured the second seed in next weekend's Centennial Conference Playoffs with the win. The Shoremen (8-8, 6-2) will be the third seed and will play the Fords again in a semifinal match at top-seeded Johns Hopkins on Friday.

Haverford's Evan Stiegel and Marc Rudolph gave the Fords an early 1-0 lead with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles over Washington sophomore Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) and freshman Derek Wise (Salisbury, MD/Parkside). The Shoremen evened the score at 1-1 when senior Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and sophomore Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) pulled out an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Elmar Trust and Marc Adelberg. Alex Buxbaum and Thomas Kinrade, ranked ninth in the region as a doubles team, gave the Fords a 2-1 lead with a 9-7 win over WC sophomore Rafael Roldan (Quito, Ecuador/Academia Cotopaxi) and sophomore Brian Danver (Montgomery Village, MD/St. Albans) at No. 1.

Green evened the score at 2-2 with a 6-2, 6-2, win over Trust at No. 3 singles. Washington took a brief 3-2 lead when Solis, ranked seventh in the region in singles, completed a 6-3, 6-1, win over Buxbaum at No. 1. The Fords evened the score when Rudolph finished a 6-2, 6-2, victory over freshman Timothy Parks (Geneva, Switzerland/College du Leman) at No. 6 and pulled ahead, 4-3, on a 6-3, 6-2, win by Stiegel over Danver at No. 4. Stephen Feder clinched the match for the Fords with a 6-3, 6-1, victory over Switala at No. 5. Kinrade scored Haverford's final point when he completed a 7-6(6), 6-2, victory over Roldan at No. 2 singles.

The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 12:00 p.m. non-conference match at Swarthmore.
