2007 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's tennis team, ranked 11th in the Atlantic South region, topped visiting Gettysburg College, 7-2, in a Centennial Conference match this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shoremen improved to 6-6 overall and 4-1 in conference play with the win, while the Bullets fell to 3-5 and 2-4 with the loss. Washington took a 2-1 lead after doubles as sophomore Rafael Roldan (Quito, Ecuador/Academia Cotopaxi) and sophomore Brian Danver (Montgomery Village, MD/St. Albans) were 8-5 winners at No. 1 and senior Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and sophomore Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) recorded an 8-3 win at No. 3. In singles, Washington won at the top five spots. Roldan was a 6-1, 6-2, winner at No. 1, Green posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2, and Danver was a 6-3, 3-6, 10-6, winner at No. 3. Solis, the seventh-ranked singles player in the region, posted a 6-1, 6-1, victory at No. 4 in his first match back from an injury. Sophomore Michal Switala (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) added a 6-3, 6-2, win at No. 5. The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Muhlenberg. |
