Shoremen Edge Red Devils, 5-4
Washington Controls Top of Line-up

CARLISLE, PA -- The Washington College men's tennis team, ranked 11th in the Atlantic South region, pulled out a 5-4 Centennial Conference win over host Dickinson College this afternoon in Carlisle, PA. The Shoremen improved to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play with the win, while the Red Devils fell to 7-5 and 2-2 with the loss.

The Shoremen won at the first three spots in singles and the top two spots in doubles in the win. In doubles, senior Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and sophomore Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) were 8-4 winners at No. 1, while sophomore Rafael Roldan (Quito, Ecuador/Academia Cotopaxi) and sophomore Brian Danver (Montgomery Village, MD/St. Albans) posted a 9-8(6) win at No. 2. Trevor Heck and Andrew Kastner recorded an 8-5 victory at No. 3 for Dickinson.

Solis, ranked seventh in the region in singles, cruised to a 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 1 singles. Roldan added a 6-3, 6-3, win at No. 2, while Green was a 6-2, 7-5, winner at No 3. Pavel Hejsek recorded a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (ret.) victory at No. 4 after Danver retired due to a cramp after the Shoremen had already clinched the match. Heck was a 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-3, winner for Dickinson at No. 5, while Eric Schroeder notched a 6-0, 6-0, victory for the Red Devils at No. 6.

"This was a great win for our guys over a good Dickinson team," noted WC head coach Constantine Ananiadis. "Our hard work is paying off and we are coming together at the right time. We're looking forward to playing Hopkins Tuesday."

The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at 21st-ranked Johns Hopkins.
