2007 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Visiting Carnegie Mellon University, ranked 14th in Division III and third in the Atlantic South region, topped hosted Washington College, the 11th-ranked team in the region, 7-2, in a men's tennis match today at Schottland Tennis Center. The Tartans improved to 13-3 with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 3-5 with the loss. Carnegie Mellon won at two of the three doubles spots to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Washington's doubles win came at No. 2 where senior Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and sophomore Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) posted an 8-4 victory over Ravi Raghavan and Jordan Koslosky. The Shoremen's lone singles win came courtesy of Solis at No. 1. Solis, ranked seventh in the region in singles, topped the region's sixth-ranked player, James Muliawan, 6-3, 6-1. "We were really happy with the energy we brought to the match and how we competed today," stated Washington College head coach Constantine Ananiadis. "Our team continues to show signs of improvement and we look forward to playing Dickinson on Saturday." The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Dickinson. |
