29, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's tennis team, ranked 20th in Division III and ninth in the Atlantic South region, cruised to a 7-0 Centennial Conference victory over visiting Ursinus College this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shoremen, who won their fourth consecutive match, improved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Bears fell to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Washington won all three doubles matches by identical 8-1 scores. Seniors Mike Edison (Darnestown, MD/Good Counsel) and Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) won at No. 1, freshmen Anantha Bhaskar (Chennai, India/National Open School) and Rafael Roldan (Quito, Ecuador/Academia Cotopaxi) won at No. 2, and freshmen Michal Szymanski (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) and Brian Danver (Montgomery Village, MD/St. Albans) were winners at No. 3. In singles, Bhaskar posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1, Edison cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2, Prytula recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3, and Roldan put up a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4. Senior Ronen Kashvin (Rishon Le Tzion, Israel/Hasmonaim Bat-Yam) added a 6-1, 6-1, win at No. 5, while freshman Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 6 in his first non-exhibition collegiate match. The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a pair of matches at Gettysburg College. Washington will play Gettysburg in a Centennial Conference match at 11:00 a.m. and then take on Elizabethtown at 2:00 p.m. |
