Lions Blank Shoremen, 7-0
Solis Extends Match to Three Sets at No. 1 Singles

EWING, NJ -- Host College of New Jersey spoiled the spring opener for the Washington College men's tennis team by posting a 7-0 setback on the Shoremen in a non-conference match today in Ewing, NJ. The Lions are ranked ninth in the Northeast region, while the Shoremen are eighth in the Atlantic South.

Junior Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School), the top-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South, turned in the Shoremen's most competitive match of the day, falling to Ryan Carty, 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-4, at No. 1 singles.

"We're not where we need to be, but we didn't expect to be," remarked Washington head coach Constantine Ananiadis after the match. "A lot of what we need to improve on is fixable, so we're still feeling good about the upcoming season."

The Shoremen return to action Friday with a 6:00 p.m. home match against Piedmont.
