26, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Host Washington College, ranked third in the Atlantic South region and 14th in Division III, blanked visiting Salisbury, ranked 13th in the region, 7-0, in a non-conference men's tennis match this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shoremen won their 14th straight match and improved to 17-3 on the year, while the Sea Gulls fell to 11-7. Washington swept doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Freshman Anantha Bhaskar (Chennai, India/National Open School) and freshman Rafael Roldan (Quito, Ecuador/Academia Cotopaxi) topped Mark Nettlow and Shane Barry, 8-1, at No. 3. Junior Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and senior Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury), ranked fourth in doubles in the Atlantic South, beat Brendan Kincaid and James Mills, the region's ninth-ranked tandem, 8-3, at No. 1. Senior Mike Edison (Darnestown, MD/Good Counsel) and senior Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) finished off Tim Mayberry and Tyler Robinson, 8-6, at No. 3. Bhaskar led off singles by breezing to a 6-0, 6-1, win over Mills at No. 3. Riskie added a 7-6(2), 6-4, victory against Robinson at No. 2 to push the lead to 3-0. Solis, the top-ranked singles player in the region, clinched the match for the Shoremen with a 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-3, win over Kincaid, ranked 18th in the region, at No. 1. Edison added a 6-2, 6-2, victory over Nettlow at No. 4, while Prytula cruised to a 6-1, 6-0, win over Sasha Felikson at No. 5. Roldan finished off the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 against Sean Larson. The Shoremen are the hosts for this weekend's Centennial Conference Championship Tournament. Washington will play Dickinson in a semifinal match Saturday. The championship match is slated for Sunday. |
