15, 2006 DELAND, FL -- The Washington College men's tennis team split two matches at Stetson University today. The Shoremen fell to Division I Stetson, 7-0, this afternoon, but bounced back to record a 7-0 win over Oxford College of Emory this evening. Washington is now 2-2 on the season. Junior Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and senior Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) turned in the Shoremen's most competitive matches against Stetson at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Solis fell to Marcus Echtler, 6-3, 7-5, while Riskie lost to Serguei Boulanov, 7-6(7), 6-4. Against Oxford College of Emory, Washington swept all three doubles matches to take the first point of the match. Solis and senior Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) posted an 8-4 win over Murphy Parker and Clayton Tarics at No. 1, Riskie and freshman Brian Danver (Montgomery Village, MD/St. Albans) were 8-4 winners against Will Bald and Prasanth Ravipati at No. 2, and freshman Anantha Bhaskar (Chennai, India/National Open School) and freshman Rafael Roldan (Quito, Ecuador/Academia Cotopaxi) best Tim Sullivan and Asa Posner, 8-5, at No. 3. Solis led off singles against Oxford College of Emory with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Tarics. Riskie was a 6-3, 6-1 winner against Parker at No. 2, while Bhaskar recorded a 6-7(4), 6-0, 10-7 win against Bald at No. 3. Senior Mike Edison (Darnestown, MD/Good Counsel) added a 4-6, 7-6(5), 10-7 win over Ravipati at No. 4, while senior Ronen Kashvin (Rishon Le Tzion, Israel/Hasmonaim Bat-Yam) defeated Sullivan, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5. Roldan completed the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Posner at No. 6. The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 12:00 p.m. match at Florida Institute of Technology. |
