Shoremen Post Singles Wins at
Hampton Roads Invitational

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- Three Washington College men's tennis players competed at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Tennis Invitational held Friday through today in Virginia Beach, VA. Junior Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and senior Mike Edison (Darnestown, MD/Good Counsel) advanced to the consolation final of their respective singles flights, while senior Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodury) reached the quarterfinals in the main draw of Flight C.

Riskie defeated Jimmy Delevante of Queens, 6-1, 6-3, in the first round of Flight C before falling to Othmane Garma of Howard, 6-3, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.

Solis lost his opening match in Flight B, but came back to win the consolation semifinal over Anthony Rinaldis of Christopher Newport, 6-2, 6-4, and the consolation final over Eddie Glidewell of Christopher Newport, 6-2, 7-6.

After Edison lost his opening match in Flight C, he won three matches in consolation play. He defeated Christopher Newport's Steven Inge, 6-2, 6-4, in the consolation quarterfinals and James Madison's Carlin Campbell, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5, in the consolation semifinals. In the consolation final, Edison defeated Delevante, 6-3, 6-4.

Edison and Riskie lost their opening match in Flight D doubles. Consolation doubles matches were not held.

The Washington College men's tennis team will compete at the ITA Southeast Regionals at Mary Washington October 1st-3rd.
