April 1, 2006 GETTYSBURG, PA -- The Washington College men's tennis team cruised to a pair of victories this afternoon in Gettysburg, PA. The Shoremen, ranked 20th in Division III and ninth in the Atlantic South region, defeated Gettysburg, 7-0, in a Centennial Conference match, and then blanked Elizabethtown, 7-0, in a non-conference match. Washington is now 9-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play this season. Against Gettysburg, WC junior Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and senior Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury), the fourth-ranked doubles team in the region, cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Senior Mike Edison (Darnestown, MD/Good Counsel) and senior Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) were 8-2 winners at No. 2, while freshman Anantha Bhaskar (Chennai, India/National Open School) and freshman Rafael Roldan (Quito, Ecuador/Academia Cotopaxi) recorded an 8-5 win at No. 3. Washington rolled through singles play against the Bullets. Solis posted, the region's top-ranked singles player, rolled to a 6-2, 6-0, win at No. 1, while Riskie was a 6-2, 6-2, winner at No. 2 and Bhaskar recorded a 6-1, 6-0, victory at No. 3. Edison added a 6-2, 6-2, win at No. 4, Prytula posted a 6-0, 6-1, win at No. 5, and Roldan completed a 6-1, 6-0, victory at No. 6. The Shoremen won all three doubles matches against Elizabethtown. Bhaskar and Roldan won, 8-1, at No. 1. Freshman Michal Szymanski (Redlo, Poland/Gunston Day School, MD) and senior Ronen Kashvin (Rishon Le Tzion, Israel/Hasmonaim Bat-Yam) were 8-5 winners at No. 2, while freshman Brian Danver (Montgomery Village, MD/St. Albans) and freshman Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) posted an 8-0 win at No. 3. Solis won at No. 1 singles against Elizabethtown, 6-0, 6-1. Riskie added a 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 2 singles, Roldan was a 6-0, 6-1, winner at No. 3, while Kashvin recorded a 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. Danver won at No. 5, 6-0, 6-3, while Green won at No. 6, 6-2, 6-1. The Shoremen return to action Thursday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Franklin & Marshall. |
