9, 2006 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's tennis team, ranked 20th in Division III and ninth in the Atlantic South region, defeated visiting Dickinson, 7-0, in a Centennial Conference match this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shoremen, who won their ninth straight match, improved to 12-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play with the win, while the Red Devils fell to 11-4 and 2-2 with the loss. In doubles, junior Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and senior Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury), the fourth-ranked tandem in the Atlantic South, cruised to an 8-0 victory. Senior Mike Edison (Darnestown, MD/Good Counsel) and senior Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) added an 8-4 win at No. 2, while freshman Anantha Bhaskar (Chennai, India/National Open School) and freshman Rafael Roldan (Quito, Ecuador/Academia Cotopaxi) were 8-2 winners at No. 3. Solis, the top-ranked singles play in the region, rolled to a 6-1, 6-1, win at No. 1 singles. Riskie added a 6-1, 6-3, win at No. 2, while Bhaskar was a 6-0, 6-3, winner at No. 3 and Edison completed a 7-5, 6-3, win at No. 4. Prytula posted a 6-1, 6-0, victory at No. 5 and Roldan finished the day with a 6-3, 6-2, victory at No. 6. The Shoremen return to action Friday with a 4:00 p.m. home match against Swarthmore. |
