April 23, 2005 HAVERFORD, PA -- The Washington College men's tennis team split a pair of matches today, falling at Swarthmore, the 14th-ranked team in Division III, 6-1, in a non-conference match, but then posting a 5-1 Centennial Conference win over host Haverford. The Shoremen are now 8-9 overall and 6-1 in conference play this season. In the win at Haverford, sophomore Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) posted a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Junior Mike Edison (Darnestown, MD/Good Counsel) was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 3, while senior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4. Junior Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) added a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 and junior Ronen Kashvin (Rishon Le Tzion, Israel/Hashmonaim Bat-Yam) completed a 6-1, 7-6(8) win at No. 6. Doubles were not held. In the loss at Swarthmore, Farouk provided the Shoremen's point with a 6-3, 5-7, 12-10 win over Jonathan Lo at No. 4 singles. Farouk trailed, 9-3, in the super-breaker played in lieu of a standard third set before rallying for the win.
