April 20, 2005 SALISBURY, MD -- Visiting Washington College, tied for sixth in the Atlantic South regional rankings, defeated host Salisbury, ranked 12th in the Atlantic South, 5-2, in a men's tennis match this afternoon. The Shoremen improved to 7-8 this season with the win. Washington swept doubles to earn the match's first point. Senior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) and junior Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) won, 8-5, at No. 1, while the teams of sophomore Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and junior Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) and juniors Mike Edison (Darnestown, MD/Good Counsel) and Ronen Kashvin (Rishon Le Tzion, Israel/Hashmonaim Bat-Yam) won by identical 8-5 scores at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Solis cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. The Shoremen also posted convincing wins at No. 5 singles as Farouk won, 6-0, 6-2, and at No. 6 singles as Kashvin won, 6-2, 6-0. Prytula added a 3-6, 7-5, 12-10 win at No. 4. The Shoremen return to action Saturday with two matches - a 10:30 a.m. non-conference match at 14th-ranked Swarthmore and a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Haverford. Match Results |
