Solis Eliminated at NCAA
Division III Singles Championship

SANTA CRUZ, CA -- Washington College sophomore Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) played in his first NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship tournament today and forced a third set before being eliminated by Middlebury's Brian Waldron in the first round at UC-Santa Cruz.

Waldron won the first set, 6-2, but Solis came back to win the second set, 6-2. Solis held a 3-0 lead at one point during the third set, but Waldron came back to win five straight games and win the match, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.

"This was a good experience for Arturo," noted Washington head coach Constantine Ananiadis. "Hopefully he will be back next year and will play even better after gaining valuable experience. It's certainly encouraging for his career to take one of the best players in the country down to the wire."
