March 19, 2005 ALLENTOWN, PA -- The Washington College men's tennis team improved to 89-0 all-time in the Centennial Conference with a 7-0 sweep of host Muhlenberg College this afternoon in the 2005 conference opener for both teams. The Shoremen won all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the contest and completed five of their six singles wins in two sets. In doubles, senior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) and junior Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) were 8-3 winners at No. 1, while junior Mike Edison (Darnestown, MD/Good Counsel) and junior Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) were 8-5 winners at No. 2, and sophomore Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and junior Ronen Kashvin (Rishon Le Tzion, Israel/Hashmonaim Bat-Yam) were 8-1 winners at No. 3. Solis posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, while Farouk was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 2 and Riskie recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3. Edison came back at No. 4 to post a 4-6, 6-4, (10-7) victory at No. 4. Prytula added a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5, while Kashvin recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6. The Shoremen (2-5 overall), who have not lost a conference match of any kind since 1985, return to action Wednesday with a 3:00 p.m. match at conference foe Ursinus. Match Results |
