April 9, 2005 TOWSON, MD -- Host Goucher College won four out of the six singles matches to defeat visiting Washington College, 4-3, in men's tennis this afternoon in Towson, MD. The Gophers, ranked 13th in the Atlantic South, improved to 9-6 with the win, while the Shoremen, ranked fifth in the Atlantic South and 18th in Division III, fell to 4-8 with the loss. Washington won the doubles point as sophomore Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and junior Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) posted an 8-6 win at No. 1 and senior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) and junior Ronen Kashvin (Rishon Le Tzion, Israel/Hashmonaim Bat-Yam) were 8-4 winners at No. 3. In singles play, Solis, ranked 13th in the region, defeated Brandon Harris, ranked 27th in the region, by a 6-2, 6-2 final at No. 1. Junior Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) was a 6-0, 6-0, winner at No. 4. Goucher won the match when Galen Wilson completed a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5. The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Dickinson. Match Results |
