April 2, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The 18th-ranked Washington College men's tennis team split a pair of matches at the Lifetime Fitness Center today, defeating Centennial Conference foe Gettysburg College, 6-1, and falling to eighth-ranked Mary Washington, 4-2. Against Gettysburg, Washington won at the top two spots in singles as sophomore Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Valle Verde School) and junior Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) won 8-1 at No. 1 and juniors Mike Edison (Darnestown, MD/Good Counsel) and Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) won 8-1 at No. 2. In singles against the Bullets, Solis was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 1, Riskie posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2, and Edison won, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3. Prytula posted a 6-1, 6--0 win at No. 4, while junior Ronen Kashvin (Rishon Le Tzion, Israel/Hashmonaim Bat-Yam) was an 8-5 winner at No. 5. Solis and Edison accounted for Washington's points against Mary Washington. Solis, ranked 13th in the Atlantic South in singles, won the last eight games of a 7-5, 6-0 win over Paul Bristow. Bristow is ranked second in the region and seventh in Division III in singles. Edison posted a 7-5, 6-4, win over Matt Rogers, the region's 28th-ranked singles player, at No. 3. Doubles were not played in the Mary Washington match due to time constraints. The Shoremen (4-7, 3-1 Centennial) return to action one week from today with a non-conference match at Goucher.
