May 1, 2005 SWARTHMORE, PA -- Washington College senior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) and junior Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) won the doubles championship at the Centennial Conference Men's Tennis Individual Championships held this weekend at Haverford and Swarthmore College's. Riskie also advanced to the singles final. Farouk and Riskie, the third-seeded tandem, opened doubles play with an 8-5 win over Eric Schroeder and Jackson Parmenter of Dickinson, 8-5, in the first round. They then knocked off Jason Brown and Ben Isser of Ursinus, 8-2, in the quarterfinals and Hardisty and Devin Wilson of Gettysburg, 8-1, in the semifinals. Farouk and Riskie bested Chanot Vasoontara and Matt Naftilan of Johns Hopkins, 6-2, 6-3 in the championship match. Riskie began his run in singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Dickinson's Chris Beegle in the first round. He then defeated third-seeded Kevin Ma of Johns Hopkins, 7-6(4), 6-4, in the second round and sixth-seeded Hans Hardisty of Gettysburg, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5. Riskie fell to top-seed Vasoontara in the championship match, 6-4, 6-3. Farouk defeated Vahe Vartan of Haverford, 6-3, 6-0, in the second round of singles before falling in the quarterfinals to Vassontara, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2. WAC Match Results
