Shoremen Solve Salisbury, 7-0
Seniors Go Unbeaten in Final Home Match

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's tennis team, ranked 20th in Division III and fifth in the Atlantic South region, posted a 7-0 home win over Salisbury University, the region's ninth-ranked team, this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shoremen finish their regular season dual match schedule with a record of 13-5.

Washington's seniors went unbeaten in their final home match. Senior Pete Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton), ranked first in the region in singles, scored a 6-1, 6-2, win over Scott Mayberry, the region's 15th-ranked singles player, at No. 1 singles. Taylor and junior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School), ranked eighth in the region in doubles, upended Mayberry and Nick Peel, the region's sixth-ranked doubles team, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. Senior Brant Whisler (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) added a 6-4, 7-5, win at at No. 6 singles, while senior Ben Dernis (Paris, France/New Hampton, NH) teamed with freshman Vivian Chhetri (Delhi, India/Prachar Vidhlaya) to record an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

In other singles action, Chhetri, ranked eighth in the region, topped Peel, ranked 22nd in the region, 7-5, 6-1. Solis, ranked 24th in the region, was a 6-4, 6-2, winner at No. 2, while Farouk cruised to a 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 4 and sophomore Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) notched a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5.

Prytula and Solis teamed up to record an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Shoremen will compete at the Centennial Conference Singles & Doubles Tournament this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Swarthmore College.
