19, 2003 NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- Three Washington College men's tennis team players competed at the Old Point National Bank ITA Invitational, held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Newport News, VA. Junior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) reached the finals in Flight C-2 Singles, while sophomores Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) and Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) advanced to the finals in Flight D Doubles. Farouk's run the final came with victories over three Division I players. He defeated Kaumba Sakavuyi of Norfolk State, 6-1, 6-1, in his first match and Rodrigo Texeira of Hofstra, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he bested Mike Downing of Virginia, 6-4, 6-3, before falling to Richmond's Eric Hage, 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-1 in the final. Riskie and Prytula won their first round doubles match over Jeff Ryman and David Weiner of Christopher Newport, 8-4, and their quarterfinal match over Justin Dorsk and Garrett Green of Division II Longwood, 8-2. Riskie and Prytula won their semifinal match when their opponents, Carlos Campo and Artoym Starkov of Division I Campbell, had to retire due to an injury. In the finals, the WC duo fell to Felipe Fonseca and J.R. Gudger of Division I East Carolina, 8-3. Riskie and Prytula also competed in Flight D Singles. Prytula defeated Brett Sinsabaugh of Christopher Newport, 6-2, 6-0, and Mario Hluch of Hofstra, 6-4, 6-1, before losing in the quarterfinals. Riskie lost his opening singles match, but bounced back to win three consolation matches before falling in the consolation final. WC Match Results
