#9 Eagles Top #18 Shoremen, 5-2
Chhetri Wins in Singles & Doubles

FREDERICKSBURG, VA -- Host Mary Washington College, the ninth-ranked team in Division III and the third-ranked team in the Atlantic South region, defeated visiting Washington College, Division III's 18th-ranked team and the region's fifth-ranked team, 5-2, in a men's tennis match this afternoon in Fredericksburg, VA.

The Eagles swung the match their way early on by winning a hotly-contested doubles point. Mary Washington captured No. 3 doubles, but Shore freshmen Vivian Chhetri (Delhi, India/Prachar Vidhlaya) and Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Vallo Verde School) knocked off Tim Ryan and Nate Hathaway, the region's 11th-ranked doubles tandem, 9-7. Mary Washington took the doubles point with a win at No. 1, where Dan Uyar and Paul Bristow, ranked third nationally and second regionally, defeated senior Pete Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and junior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School), ranked 19th nationally and fifth regionally, 9-8(4).

The Shoremen won the top two flights in singles play. Taylor, ranked third nationally and first regionally, bested Ryan, ranked 39th nationally and seventh regionally, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1. Chhetri upended Bristow, the region's 18th-ranked singles player, 4-6, 6-1, (10-6), at No. 2.

Following the loss, Washington College head coach Constantine Ananiadis was upbeat about the rest of the regular season. "We look forward to finishing the season strong and winning our last four matches to carry some momentum into the NCAA Tournament," he remarked.

The Shoremen (9-5) are back in action tomorrow with a 3:30 p.m. home match against 19th-ranked Swarthmore.
