No. 18 Shoremen Handle Mules, 7-0
WC Drops Only Six Games in Singles

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The 18th-ranked Washington College men's tennis team dropped a total of only six games in singles play en route to a 7-0 win over visiting Muhlenberg College in a Centennial Conference match this afternoon at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shoremen moved to 83-0 all-time in Centennial play and extended their overall conference winning streak to 115 matches with the win.

No Washington player lost more than one game in a set in singles play. Senior Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) didn't lose a single game en route to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1. Freshman Vivian Chhetri (Delhi, India/Prachar Vidhlaya) and junior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) won by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Freshman Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Vallo Verde School) posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4, while sophomore Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 5. Sophomore Nick Komljenovic (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6.

The Shoremen won two of the three doubles matches to capture the doubles point. Taylor and Farouk won at No. 1, 8-2, while seniors Ben Dernis (Paris, France/New Hampton, NH) and Brant Whisler (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) scored an 8-4 win at No. 3.

The win over the Mules marked the Shoremen's fourth match in a 48 hour span. Washington beat Dickinson, 7-0, Friday evening and Ursinus, 7-0, yesterday afternoon. Earlier today, the Shoremen posted a 5-1 non-conference win over Averett.

WC head coach Constantine Ananiadis was pleased with his team's busy, but successful, weekend. "We got contributions from all 10 of our players this weekend. Using different line-ups gave some of our guys who aren't normally in the line-up a chance to play and they stepped up. It was a good team effort all weekend long," remarked Ananiadis.

The Shoremen (6-0 overall, 3-0 Centennial) return to action Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home match against Johns Hopkins.
