Shoremen Win 11th Straight CC Crown
Washington 88-0 All-Time in Centennial

WESTMINSTER, MD -- The 20th-ranked Washington College men's tennis team put the wraps on its 11th consecutive Centennial Conference Championship today with a 7-0 victory at McDaniel College. Washington, which is the only champion the Centennial has ever known, finishes the conference season 8-0 and improves to 88-0 all-time in Centennial play. The Shoremen have won 120 consecutive conference matches since 1985, a streak that dates back to their days in the Middle Atlantic Conference.

The Shoremen swept through doubles to claim the first point of the match. Senior Pete Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and junior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) posted an 8-0 win at No. 1, sophomore Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) and senior Ben Dernis (Paris, France/New Hampton, NH) were 8-6 winners at No. 2, and sophomore Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) and sophomore Nick Komljenovic (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) recorded an 8-2 win at No. 3.

Washington dropped a total of eight games in the six singles flights. Taylor was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at No. 1, freshman Vivian Chhetri (Delhi, India/Prachar Vidhlaya) scored a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2, and freshman Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Vallo Verde School) cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3. Riskie added a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4, while senior Brant Whisler (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) notched a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 and sophomore Ronen Kashvin (Rishon Le Tzion, Israel/Hashmonaim Bat-Yam) recorded an 8-1 win at No. 6.

"We're thrilled that we have continued the tradition of Washington College winning the Centennial Championship," noted head coach Constantine Ananiadis. "We're looking forward to our match with Salisbury tomorrow to close out the regular season."

The Shoremen, now 12-5 overall, will play host to Salisbury tomorrow in a match that begins at 3:30 p.m.
