Shoremen Sweep Goucher in Opener
WC Wins All Singles in Straight Sets

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's tennis team, ranked 18th in Division III and fifth in the Atlantic South region, opened its spring dual meet schedule with a 7-0 sweep of Goucher this afternoon at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Gophers (6-2) are the 12th-ranked team in the Atlantic South region.

The Shoremen won the doubles point by capturing all three doubles matches. Senior Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and junior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) were 8-1 winners at No. 1, while sophomores Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) and Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) won by an identical score at No. 3. Freshmen Vivian Chhetri (Delhi, India/Prachar Vidhlaya) and Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Vallo Verde School) made their WC debuts with an 8-5 win at No. 3.

Washington won all six singles matches in straight sets. Taylor was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at No. 1, while Chhetri posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2. Solis and Farouk each won by a 6-2, 6-1, score at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Riskie posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5, while Prytula notched a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6.

The Shoremen are back in action tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. home match against Piedmont.
