27, 2004 GETTYSBURG, PA -- The 18th-ranked Washington College men's tennis team had little trouble winning its 117th straight conference match this afternoon, cruising to a 7-0 Centennial Conference win over host Gettysburg College. The Shoremen, now 8-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play this season, improved to 85-0 all-time in the Centennial Conference with the win. Senior Pete Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and junior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) led off doubles play with an 8-2 win at No. 1. Sophomore Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) and freshman Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Vallo Verde School) won every game en route to an 8-0 win at No. 2, while seniors Ben Dernis (Paris, France/New Hampton, NH) and Brant Whisler (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) won the only close match of the contest at No. 3 doubles by a 9-7 final. The Shoremen dropped a total of two games in the top half of singles play. Taylor won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, while Solis posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 and Farouk was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 3. Prytula recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, while sophomore Ronen Kashvin (Rishon Le Tzion, Israel/Hashmonaim Bat-Yam) won, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5. Whisler rounded things out with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6. The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 10:30 a.m. home match against eighth-ranked Washington and Lee. Match Results
