10, 2004 ATLANTA, GA -- Host Emory University, the top ranked team in the Atlantic South region and in all of Division III, defeated visiting Washington College, ranked fifth in the region and 18th in Division III, 6-1, in men's tennis action today in Atlanta, GA. The Eagles improved to 15-1 this season with the win, while the Shoremen slipped to 9-3 with the loss. Washington's lone point came at No. 2 singles where freshmen Vivian Chhetri (Delhi, India/Prachar Vidhlaya) rallied to defeat Alex Jacobs, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. At No. 1 singles, senior Pete Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) dropped a tight three set match to Tyson Ramsay, 7-5, 5-7, 7-5. Taylor is ranked third in Division III and first in the region in singles, while Ramsay is ranked ninth and third, respectively. "We started out flat in doubles and in the beginning of singles play," commented Washington head coach Constantine Ananiadis, "but once we settled into the match, we made a good run for the win. If a few points went our way instead of theirs, this easily could have been a 4-3 match. We proved we can play with a team of Emory's caliber. This gives us confidence going into the rest of our schedule with some more big matches coming up." The Shoremen's Georgia swing continues tomorrow with a match at Georgia Perimeter, the fourth-ranked team in the NJCAA. Match Results
