Shoremen Sweep CC Opener
WC Improves to 81-0 in Centennial

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The 18th-ranked Washington College men's tennis team improved to 81-0 all-time in Centennial Conference play and ran its overall conference winning streak to 113 with a 7-0 sweep over visiting Dickinson this afternoon in front of a standing room only crowd at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The match was the Centennial opener for both teams.

In doubles, WC senior Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and junior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) cruised to an 8-0 win at No. 1. Freshmen Vivian Chhetri (Delhi, India/Prachar Vidhlaya) and Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Vallo Verde School) were 8-1 winners at No. 2, while seniors Ben Dernis (Paris, France/New Hampton, NH) and Brant Whisler (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) posted an 8-3 victory at No. 3

Taylor led off singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1. Chhetri won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, while Farouk was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 3. Sophomore Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4, while sophomore Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5. Sophomore Nick Komljenovic (Glen Burnie, MD/Glen Burnie) rounded out singles play with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 6.

Washington improved to 3-0 overall this season with the win, while Dickinson slipped to 5-1.

The Shoremen are back in action tomorrow with a 12:00 p.m. conference home match against Ursinus.
