No. 18 Shoremen Down Averett, 5-1
Prytula & Riskie Secure Doubles Point

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's tennis team, ranked 18th in Division III and fifth in the Atlantic South region, posted a 5-1 victory over visiting Averett, the region's 14th-ranked team, this morning at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shoremen improved to 5-0 overall this season with the win.

The doubles point was hotly contested. The top flight in doubles was the first match to finish as Averett's Daniel McGregor and Jose Licera defeated Washington senior Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and junior Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School), 9-8(5). Minutes later, Washington freshmen Vivian Chhetri (Delhi, India/Prachar Vidhlaya) and Arturo Solis (Guatemala, Guatemala/Vallo Verde School) finished up an 8-6 win over Sirsean Arlain and Niklas Karvonen at No. 2. Washington won the doubles point when sophomores Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) and sophomore Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) completed a 9-8(5) win at No. 3. Riskie and Prytula rallied to win after trailing, 4-1, following the first five games.

Washington won the first three singles flights that finished to clinch the win in the match. Farouk, playing at No. 4, made the team score 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over McGregor at No. 4. Solis gave the Shoremen their third point with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Karvonen at No. 3, and Taylor scored the decisive fourth point by defeating Arlain, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1.

Averett's lone point came at No. 5 singles where Licera defeated Riskie, 6-0, 6-3. Chhetri accounted for Washington's fifth point with a 7-6(3), 6-4 win against Antonius at No. 2. The sixth singles flight did not finish due to time considerations.

The Shoremen are playing a second match today as they face Centennial Conference foe Muhlenberg this afternoon. That match began at 1:40 p.m.
