18, 2003 SWARTHMORE, PA -- The Washington College men's tennis team posted a 4-2 non-conference win at Swarthmore today to improve to 10-4 this season. The Shoremen and the Garnet are the fifth and third-ranked teams in the Atlantic South region, respectively. The Shoremen took the top two spots in doubles to claim the first point of the match. Junior Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and sophomore Rafael Martins (Vitoria, Brazil/Prof. Anibal de Freitas), playing in his first match since March 1st, won 8-6 at No. 1. Sophomore Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) and senior Alvaro Prado (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Liceo Javier) posted an 8-6 win at No. 2. In singles, WC won three of five completed matches. At No. 1, Taylor won the first set 6-1, and then battled back to win the second set, 7-5, after trailing 5-1. The Shoremen's next point came at No. 4, where Farouk pulled out a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win in a match that lasted over two hours. Senior Louis Blanchette (Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada/Mathieu-Martin) gave the Shoremen the match victory when he rallied to win in three sets at No. 3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. The Shoremen are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Dickinson for a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match. Match Results
