29, 2003 LEXINGTON, VA -- The ninth-ranked Washington College men's tennis team rallied after losing the doubles point to edge past No. 19 Rhodes College, 4-3, this afternoon at Washington & Lee University. The Shoremen and the Lynx are the Atlantic South Region's third- and fifth-ranked teams, respectively. Sophomore Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) and senior Alvaro Prado (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Liceo Javier) picked up the Shoremen's only win in doubles, topping Eddie Blanton and Logan Stevens, the region's 15th-ranked doubles team, 8-5. The Shoremen (5-3) won at the top three spots in singles play and at No. 5. Junior Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton), ranked third in the region and 12th in Division III in singles, defeated Andy Campbell (11th in the region, 40th in Division III), 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1. Senior Louis Blanchette (Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada/Mathieu-Martin) knocked off the region's 16th-ranked singles player in Blanton, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2. Farouk posted a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3, while freshman Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) rallied to win at No. 5, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. The Shoremen are back in action tomorrow with a 10:30 a.m. match at No. 14 Washington & Lee. Match Results
