16, 2002 FREDERICKSBURG, VA -- The Washington College men's tennis team opened its 2002-03 season at the Mary Washington Kick-Off Classic this past Saturday and Sunday. The Shoremen picked up three wins in doubles play and played all of their matches against Division I opponents. Junior Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and sophomore Rafael Martins (Vitoria, Brazil/Prof. Anibal de Freitas/Cristelo) defeated Matt Hane and Marius Weigert from George Washington, 8-5, in their second match of the tournament at No. 1 doubles . Sophomore Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) and junior Alvaro Prado (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Liceo Javier) also won their second match of the tournament at No. 2 doubles, topping Kenan Bell and Joel Moyland of Liberty, 9-8(4). At No. 3 doubles, junior Louis Blanchette (Dieppe, N.B., Canada/Mathieu-Martin) and freshman Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland) won their opening match, 8-5, against Jason Sucoll and Jake Jopling of George Washington. All but one of the Shoremen's Sunday singles matches did not finish due to rain. Washington returns to action at the ITA South Regionals held October 5-7 at Salisbury University. WC Match Results
