2, 2003 ST. PETER, MN -- Sixteenth-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology defeated ninth-ranked Washington College, 4-3, late last night in the seventh-place match of the Division III ITA National Indoor Team Championships at Gustavus Adolphus College. M.I.T. won the doubles point by taking two of the three matches. At No. 1, Andrew Kolesnikov and Vitaliy Pereverzev, the 10th-ranked doubles team in Division III, defeated WC junior Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and sophomore Rafael Martins (Vitoria, Brazil/Prof. Anibal de Freitas/Cristelo), the 21st-ranked duo in Division III, by an 8-5 count. At No. 2, Mike Ogrydziak and Evan Tindell bested WC sophomore Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) and senior Alvaro Prado (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Liceo Javier), 9-8. WC senior Louis Blanchette (Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada/Mathieu-Martin) and freshman Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Polan) won at No. 3, defeating Erik Makhni and Krisha Pokala, 8-6. The two teams split in singles play. Taylor, Division III's 12th-ranked singles player, finished off a 3-0 weekend at No. 1, defeating eighth-ranked Tindell, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2. Kolesnikov beat Martins, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2, while Pereverzev, ranked 19th, topped Blanchette, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3. Farouk downed Ogrydziak, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4, while Prado topped Pokala, 7-6, 6-2 at No. 5. At No. 6, Makhni defeated Prytula, 6-1, 6-2. The Shoremen are back in action March 10th with a 3:30 p.m. home match against Denison. Match Results
