Shoremen Top Denison, 5-2
WC Gets Win in Home Opener

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Ninth-ranked Washington College won its home opener today, defeating Denison, 5-2, in men's tennis action today at the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shoremen (1-3), ranked third in the Atlantic South region, swept all three doubles matches and won four-of-six singles matches against Denison, the eighth-ranked team in the Central region.

The Shoremen won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by identical 9-7 scores, with junior Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and senior Louis Blanchette (Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada/Mathieu-Martin) prevailing at No. 1 and freshmen Maciek Prytula (Szczecin, Poland/PLO) and Tim Riskie (Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) winning at No. 3. WC sophomore Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) and senior Alvaro Prado (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Liceo Javier) cruised to an 8-0 win at No. 2.

Taylor, Division III's 12th-ranked singles player, bested Jeronie Barnes, ranked 50th in Division III, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Farouk was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at No. 3, Prado was a 6-2, 7-6(7), winner at No. 4, and Prytula rallied for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5.

The Shoremen are back in action March 19th with their Centennial Conference opener, a 4:00 p.m. match at Ursinus.
