10, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The seventh-ranked Washington College Shoremen improved to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in Centennial Conference play with a 7-0 sweep of visiting Western Maryland today at Schottland Tennis Pavilion. The Shoremen, now 68-0 all-time in Centennial play, dropped just three games the entire match. In doubles, sophomore Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and Freshman Rafael Martins (Vitoria, Brazil/Prof. Anibal de Freitas/Cristelo) won 8-1 at No. 1. The other two doubles matches were 8-0 sweeps, with junior Louis Blanchette (Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada/Mathieu-Martin) and freshman Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) winning at No. 2 and junior Alvaro Prado (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Liceo Javier) and senior Tomas Budimir (Split, Croatia/Tourist Catering School) winning at No. 3. WC won four of the singles matches by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores with Taylor doing so at No. 1, Martins at No. 2, Blanchette at No. 4, and Prado at No. 5. Farouk won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 and Budimir won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 to round out singles play. The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. Centennial match at home against 25th-ranked Swarthmore. Match Results
