30, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The seventh-ranked Washington College Shoremen improved to 4-2 this season and 4-0 against Division III teams with a 5-2 win over No. 17 Washington & Lee. The Shoremen won all three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches. At No. 1 doubles, seniors Jose' Lejarraga (Bahia Blanca, Argentina/Escuela Normal Superior) and Seth Morgan (Chalmette, LA/J.J. Pearce, TX), ranked second in the South Atlantic Region and sixth in the nation, defeated the region's seventh-ranked team of Rhys James and Andrew Roberts, 8-6. Sophomore Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and freshman Rafael Martins (Vitoria, Brazil/Prof. Anibal de Freitas/Cristelo) won 8-6 at No. 2 and junior Louis Blanchette (Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada/Mathieu-Martin) and freshman Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) won 8-4 at No. 3. In singles, Lejarraga (third in the region, seventh in the nation) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 over Paul McClure. Morgan (seventh, 23rd) topped James (11th, 43rd) at No. 2, 6-4, 7-6(8) at No. 2. W&L's Austin Kim defeated Farouk, 4-6, 7-6, 2-2 (ret.) at No. 3. Taylor (15th in the region) defeated Roberts (21st), 7-6(7), 6-2 at No. 4. Martins accounted for WC's other point with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 loss at No. 5. The Shoremen return to action Monday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference match against Johns Hopkins. Match Results
