Shoremen Fall to Div. II Power
West Florida Sweeps, 9-0

PENSACOLA, FL -- In a battle between the seventh-ranked teams in Division II and Division III, the Washington College men's tennis team was swept, 9-0, by higher-division host West Florida this afternoon in Pensacola, FL.

In singles play, the only Shoreman to win a set was junior Louis Blanchette (Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada/Mathieu-Martin), who lost 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 to Mario Vergara. At No. 1, West Florida's Radovan Chrz, the top-ranked player in Division II, posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Washington senior Jose' Lejarraga (Bahia Blanca, Argentina/Escuela Normal Superior).

At No. 1 doubles, Lejarraga and senior Seth Morgan (Chalmette, LA/J.J. Pearce, TX) dropped an 8-6 decision to Chrz and Paulius Jurkenas.

The match was played according to Division II rules, which award one point for each singles and doubles match. In Divisions I and III, a point is awarded for each singles match and one point is award to the school that wins two of the three doubles matches.

The Shoremen, whose other loss this season came at the hands of Division I Binghamton, return to action Sunday with a 12:00 p.m. match at No. 10 Averett.
