21, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The seventh-ranked Washington College Shoremen opened their 2002 Centennial Conference dual match schedule today the same way they have opened it since the league's inception, with a win. The Shoremen defeated visiting Ursinus, 7-0, at Schottland Tennis Pavilion to run their all-time Centennial record to 65-0. Senior Jose Lejarraga (Bahia Blanca, Argentina/Escuela Normal Superior) was one of four Shoremen to win 6-0, 6-0 in singles. Lejarraga swept his opponent at No. 1, freshman Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) did the same at No. 2, freshman Rafael Martins (Vitoria, Brazil/Prof. Anibal de Freitas/Cristelo) posted an identical score at No. 4, and junior Alvaro Prado (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Liceo Javier) swept his opponent at No. 6. Sophomore Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 and junior Louis Blanchette (Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada/Mathieu-Martin) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 to round out the singles matches. In doubles, Lejarraga and Prado won 8-1 at No. 1, Taylor and Martins won 8-0 at No. 2, and Farouk and Blanchette won 8-1 at No. 3. The Shoremen, now 3-2 overall this season, return to action March 30 with a 12:00 p.m. home match against 17th-ranked Washington & Lee. Match Results
