16, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The seventh-ranked Washington College Shoremen improved to 11-3 this season with a 6-1 victory over visiting Eastern Shore rival Salisbury University. The Shoremen breezed through the doubles matches and captured five of six singles matches. The Shoremen dropped a total of four games in doubles. Sophomore Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and freshman Rafael Martins (Vitoria, Brazil/Prof. Anibal de Freitas/Cristelo) won 8-2 at No. 1, senior Jose Lejarraga (Bahia Blanca, Argentina/Escuela Normal Superior) and junior Alvaro Prado (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Liceo Javier) won 8-1 at No. 2, and freshman Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) and junior Louis Blanchette (Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada/Mathieu-Martin) were 8-0 winners at No. 3. Four Shoremen won their singles matches in two sets. Lejarraga posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1, Farouk was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 4, Blanchette notched a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5, and Prado won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6. Taylor battled back after dropping his first set to win 1-6, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2. The Shoremen return to action with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference match at Franklin & Marshall Friday. Match Results
