6, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shoremen, ranked seventh in Division III swept past a solid Rhodes squad, 7-0, today in the Lifetime Fitness Center. The Shoremen, ranked second in the South Atlantic region, improved to 7-2 overall with the win over the Lynx, ranked eighth in the region. WC won all but one singles match in two sets. Senior Jose Lejarraga (Bahia Blanca, Argentina/Escuela Normal Superior), ranked third in the region and seventh in the nation, won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 over Andy Campbell, tenth in the region and 41st in the nation . Senior Seth Morgan (Chalmette, LA/J.J. Pearce, TX), ranked seventh in the region and 23rd in Division III, posted a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win at No. 2 and freshman Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 over the region's 24th-ranked player, Duncan Howell. Sophomore Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton), 15th in the region, won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4. Freshman Rafael Martins (Vitoria, Brazil/Prof. Anibal de Freitas/Cristelo) won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 and junior Louis Blanchette (Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada/Mathieu-Martin) won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 to round out singles play. In doubles, Lejarraga and Morgan, ranked second in the region as a doubles team and sixth in Division III won 8-6 at No. 1 over Campbell and Howell, ranked third in the region and 13th in the nation. Taylor and Martins won 8-4 at No. 2 and Farouk and Blanchette won 8-1 at No. 3. The Shoremen return to action tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. against Emory. Emory is ranked first in the South Atlantic and fifth in Division III. Match Results
