17, 2001 FREDERICKSBURG, VA -- The Washington College men's tennis team opened its 2001-02 season at the Mary Washington Kick-Off Classic this past Saturday and Sunday. Two Shoremen went undefeated in singles play at the tournament. Senior Jose' Lejarraga (Bahia Blanca, Argentina/Escuela Normal Superior) won all three of his matches at No. 1 singles. Lejarraga swept each match en route to his 3-0 record. In his second match, Lejarraga defeated Liberty's Ricardo Shinozaki, one of the top 50 singles players in Division I, by a 7-5, 6-1 count. The other WC player to go undefeated was sophomore Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) at No. 3. Taylor won all three of his matches in straight sets as well. Senior Seth Morgan (Chalmette, LA/J.J. Pearce, TX) went 2-1 at No. 2 singles, while senior Tomas Budimir (Split, Croatia/Tourist Catering School) won two of his three matches at No. 6. Each of the two remaining Shoremen singles players won one match, junior Louis Blanchette (Dieppe, N.B., Canada/Mathieu-Martin) at No. 4 and junior Alvaro Prado (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Liceo Javier) at No. 5. In doubles play, each Washington team won two of its three matches, Lejarraga and Morgan at No. 1, Taylor and Blanchette at No. 2, and Prado and Budimir at No. 3. The Shoremen were joined by the host Eagles, Drew, and Liberty at the two-day event. Washington returns to action at the ITA South Regionals held October 5-8 at Swarthmore College. WC Match Results
