2, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College Shoremen, ranked second in the South Atlantic region and seventh in Division III, improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in Centennial Conference play with a 7-0 sweep of visiting Haverford, the 15th-ranked team in the region. The Shoremen are now 67-0 all-time in Centennial play. In doubles, sophomore Peter Taylor (Canton, CT/Canton) and freshman Rafael Martins (Vitoria, Brazil/Prof. Anibal de Freitas/Cristelo) won 8-3 at No. 1. Senior Jose Lejarraga (Bahia Blanca, Argentina/Escuela Normal Superior) and junior Alvaro Prado (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Liceo Javier) won by an identical score at No. 2 and junior Louis Blanchette (Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada/Mathieu-Martin) and freshman Asfand Farouk (Karachi, Pakistan/City School) were 8-6 winners at No. 3. Lejarraga headed singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1. Farouk won 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2, while Taylor was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 3. Martins posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4, Blanchette won 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 at No. 5, and Prado came away with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 6. The Shoremen host Rhodes, the eighth-ranked team in the region Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and square off against visiting Emory, the top-ranked team in the region and fifth-ranked team in Division III Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Match Results
