Widener Tops Shoremen, 120-77
Thomas Wins 200 Breaststroke

CHESTER, PA - Host Widener University defeated visiting Washington College, 120-77, in non-conference men's swimming tonight in Chester, PA. Senior Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) won the 200 breaststroke in a Washington College season-best time of 2:19.51 in the loss for the Shoremen (3-2).

The Shoremen also won both relay events as freshman Matt Violette (Westbrook, ME/Westbrook), Thomas, sophomore Dylan Pollock (Savannah, GA/Benedictine Military), and sophomore Chris Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield) won the 200 medley relay in a WC season-best time of 1:41.17, while senior Brandon Becker (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East), junior Phil Munger (Devon, PA/Conestoga), junior Dan Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson), and senior Eddie Raleigh (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:35.07.

Violette was second in the 200 backstroke in a WC season-best time of 2:06.44, making him the Shoremen's seventh-fastest swimmer ever in that event. Pollock placed second in the 200 butterfly in 2:08.07, while Wentzel was second in the 500 freestyle (5:10.50) and in the 1000 freestyle (10:51.04).

The Shoremen return to action December 8th with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home meet against Franklin & Marshall.
